Painting
Ursala “Kadusné” Hudson, Tlingit, “Conduit”, 2023.
Painting is the first medium Hudson began to work with, thus integrating this artistic method with the traditional formline design in conjunction with a modernist coloring style. This piece reflects the significance of interconnectedness, both within the Tlingit community and the spiritual and metaphysical realm. The representation of the Spider Woman affirms this, bridging humanity together even with acknowledgement of sovereignty.

Alison Bremner, Tlingit, “Raven Releases the Stars”, 2014.
The tale of the trickster Raven is infamous in Northwest Coast and Tlingit folklore. This painting puts into perspective the enormity of Raven's actions and their subsequent impact on humankind. Without light, no person could survive, thus Bremner honors Raven and his care for Native people, achieved in a vibrant, larger-than-life painting. Spirituality is the creator and connector of people to the universe.
